百忍堂中有泰和
Treasured Object No. 569-1
Prosperity and peace resides in a family whose 
members endure one hundred times.
Emperor Gaozong of the Tang dynasty (628–683) 
bestowed this writing to Zhang Gongyi (張公藝) 
living in Yunzhou as the title of the latter’s house 
in order to praise that his family of nine 
generations lived in harmony under one roof.

How a man of strong will can dream a peaceful 
dream when he thinks over the current situations 
of East Asia. How sad it is for him to have not yet 
accomplished peace. It is so pitiful that the enemy 
has not given up a war of aggression.

In order to save East Asia, we have to change our 
political tactics. If we miss a chance and an 
opportunity, there is no use regretting afterwards.

Having a concern and great anxiety about the 
national security.
On the upper right side of the calligraphy is written 
“Presentation to Prosecutor Yasuoka (安岡),” as 
Ahn gave this piece to Yasuoka at Lushun Court 
who had been kind to him. After the death of 
Yasuoka, his widow and the eldest daughter Ueno 
kept it. Finally, the International Korean Institute in 
Tokyo donated this piece to the Ahn Jung Geun 
Memorial Museum in Namsan in 1976.

Treasured Object No. 569-23 
It is the duty of a soldier to sacrifice his body to 
the nation.
Ahn presented this piece to Tosichi Chiba 
(千葉十七), Japanese military police officer, who 
had guarded him. After finishing his military 
service, Chiba took it to Japan and preserved it 
carefully along with Ahn’s photos as he was so i
mpressed by Ahn’s noble characters and philosophy. 
After Chiba’s death, his widow and step-daughter 
Miura (三浦) enshrined the piece. After passing 
through the Dairinji (大林寺) temple in Kurigoma 
and the International Korean Institute in Tokyo, 
the institute donated it to the Ahn Jung Geun 
Memorial Museum in 1980.

If we do not receive what heaven gives us, we will 
be punished on the contrary.The same as the 
passage “Cheonyeobulsu Bansugiang 
(天與不受 反受其殃)” 
From Chunqiu (春秋; Spring and Autumn Annals), 
a history of the state of Lu during the early 
Eastern Zhou dynasty.
